My name is Megan, I am 21 years old, and I have been with Train Insane for what will be a year this October. Starting boot camp last fall was the best decision I have ever made for myself. Train Insane taught me how to be an athlete, a fighter, and a believer… while it never gets easy, Train Insane has taught me how to make fitness and health a lifestyle choice rather than a weekly burden. But even beyond this, Train Insane has taught me mental toughness… the motivation and encouragement I lean on to get through a workout has taught me so much about how to tackle other life obstacles. I will continue to make Train Insane a part of my everyday life and share my story with others to help guide them towards healthy, happy lives.– Megan Marsh

I’m Ready, How Much Does It Cost

And How Do I Get Started!

If you were to work with me or anyone of my personal trainers one-on-one you’d pay at least $550-$700/month. Even if you worked with a mediocre personal trainer you’d easily pay at least$400/month (for an inferior workout). And you’d be hard pressed to find a personal trainer out there who would put his money where his mouth is and guarantee your results like I do.

Yes, even if it cost one million dollars for my health and happiness, it would be worth it.

But the good news is that you won’t pay anywhere near what the typical trainer charges for one-on-one training. Instead your investment is as little as $197 a month – That’s just $6.63 a day

Okay I’m ready to register… lets get started!

Equal but not the Same

April 21, 2011 Leave a comment

Go on a diet,Eat more veggies, eat lean meats, drink more water, cut out sugar, these are all things im sure you hear all the time if you want to get in shape and live a healthier life. Even though we hear these things all the time, very few people actually understand what this means or how to incorporate it into a healthy lifestyle. With all the fad diets and all the other crappy nutritional advice floating around, it makes it practically impossible to know what is right and what is wrong.

What I am going to arm you all with is just a few simple guidelines when following a healthy eating plan. First and foremost, when you are looking at a food label the foods are listed in order of most to least ingredients. For example if you read a label and it says sugar for the first ingredient that means most of what you are eating is made from sugar. So a good rule of thumb is that if the first ingredient is sugar you probable don’t want to have that as part of your diet. Also please do not be fooled by the whole “sugar-free” all that means is it can have less than .5 grams of sugar per serving and be labeled as sugar-free, meaning that there very well could be sugar in several servings.

Also you want to be eating REAL FOOD! What I mean by real food is simply foods that are not processed and added with hormones and other harmful things. Just take a look around any grocery store and you will find a million different foods and drinks that say “fat-free” or “sugar-free” all this means is they were altered from their natural state or just completely made up in a lab. Anytime they make something fat-free it usually tends to be high in sugar and  the sugar-free foods sometimes tend to be high in fat or sodium to make up the taste difference.

Here are a few easy tips to make shopping and eating healthy a whole lot easier

1. If the ingredient list is really long with words you have never seen or can’t even pronounce, its probable a good idea to stay away

2. Completely eliminate high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils of any kind

3. opt for grass-fed free range meats and eggs

4. Eat only high quality organic dairy products

5. If you are going to eat bread and pasta eat wheat free and gluten-free( Ezekiel products are good to have)

6. Stay away from white flour and white sugar.

I believe sometimes people get way to caught up in the amount of calories that are in foods rather than looking to see where the calories are coming from. Think of it this way, there are some very low-calorie white breads out there that have a ton fewer calories than lets say Ezekiel bread however the Ezekiel bread is a better choice because you can actually digest and process the Ezekiel bread to whereas the white bread is highly processed and foreign to your body. Now please do not misunderstand what im saying by eating food with higher calories. All I am simply saying is sometimes food with higher calories with less sugar and sodium may be better for you than something with lower calories. Again this does not mean that just because food is natural and organic that it is ok to over eat and consume a ton of calories!

Here is a simply and effective way to think about it. Work on eating and making better food choices, like cutting back on sugar and processed food then worry about portion sizes, then you can worry about the total amount of calories you are consuming. And if you have not read the phenomenal post Geoff wrote on the psychology of eating, you must read it!! it goes hand in hand with the stuff I covered in this article. Put this stuff into action and watch your mind and body change!

Why Train Insane?

April 12, 2011 Leave a comment

So I am writing this post because of a comment that someone made to me the other day.  I was out with some friends, and ended up on the topic of Train Insane, (weird) and someone asked me if I ever talked about anything other than “work?”

This made me think…. I had never thought of Train Insane as work before.  Yet here I was with a group of people that for the most part had nothing but bad things to say about their jobs, and I realized how lucky Aaron and I are to love what we do.

It also made me think about why I do talk about it so much?  The answer is what this post is all about.

You see, fitness is something that EVERYONE wants.  I don’t care how old you are, or where you are in your life, if I offered you the body of your dreams you ‘d take it in a heart beat.  That being said, if everyone wants it so bad, then why aren’t we all in shape?

Well there are several answers to that question, but the biggest ones are BAD information, and our own laziness.  What happens is, we all want getting in shape to be easy, so when some sweaty douche bag on TV tells you all you need is this pill, or gadget, or whatever, you want to believe it will work.  I think that deep down we all know that we are kidding ourselves, but would rather roll the dice on that crap than do what we know we should.

Now the question was “why do I talk about Train Insane so much?”  My reason is simple.  I feel obligated to tell AS MANY people as possible about it because I think it is the BEST program around to get people in shape.  The way I look at it is this, people will eventually look for a way to get in shape, because lets face it, being fat sucks.  So if I don’t tell them about my program and get them involved, then someone will sell them on a shitty product or program that DOES NOT work.  So you see I am really saving them from themselves 🙂

But even more than that, I know that there is truly no program out there like us.  Not one with better or more qualified coaches, a program that has gotten the level of results, the personal touch of knowing every client and what their particular goal is, or even access to all of the informative articles that we put out each week.  We truly are the only thing you need to make your fitness goals a reality. The only question is, do you have what it takes not just to workout, but to push yourself each and every time you step foot our gym?  To make sure that you are getting better with every workout, and ultimately to achieve things that you never thought possible?

If you are tired of walking into 24 hour, LA Fitness, or whatever other globo gym you train at and feeling lost.  If you feel like your 45 min jaunt on the treadmill is not really cutting it any more, and you are frustrated, but don’t have anyone to guide you.  PLEASE! come try Train Insane for 1 week  ON US!(CLICK HERE) The longer you are frustrated with your workouts, and continue to see little or not results, the higher the chance you will lose motivation and stop working out.  Come see us and get on the path to the body you have always wanted.

The Truth About Weight Loss

Okay, this post has been a long time coming.  I have been asked this question, or questions like this for about as long as I have been a coach/trainer.  I guarantee that most of you have either asked these question or have wanted to.

Now with a program like the one we have at Train Insane, we make some pretty BIG claims.  The biggest one being that if you buy into the program and follow it to the letter, we GUARANTEE RESULTS! The problem is that this program is not like anything many of you have ever done before.  Many of you have been part of aerobic classes, kick boxing,  running, cycling, some sort of resistance/ weight lifting program, but never one like this.

The difference is this; with Train Insane, you  are part of an ACTUAL PROGRAM.  Not just a program that is built to pack as many people as possible into a room  to make the most money, but a progressive program that is built on achieving RESULTS!

The problem here is that many other programs are made to give you a quick loss in weight.  Now notice that I said weight and not fat.  Many of you, and to be honest mostly women are SOOOOO over concerned with the number on the scale, that you can’t see past it.(see: The Scale Means Nothing)  The truth is that you should be concerned with losing FAT not just WEIGHT.  If you don’t know the difference, don’t worry, I will fill you in.  Losing weight could come from anything.  It could be water, muscle, the fact that you ate more or less food before you weighed yourself, and so on.  (By the way, none of these things will in any way change your appearance and all are only temporary changes)  Losing fat on the other hand will DRASTICALLY change your appearance.

Now when you start a program like ours, you need to know that we are not in the least bit concerned with what your scale says.  That is a losing battle that we gave up on long ago.  That is also why you will not find a scale anywhere in our gym.  Our program is not set up for you to come for a month and leave.  If that is what you are looking for, then I would suggest you join a jazzercise class, or maybe do some sort of crash diet.  But if you are really looking to make a change not only in the way look and feel, but in your health and lifestyle, then Train Insane is EXACTLY what you need.

There are several reasons why many people will experience some initial weight gain when starting our program.  Let’s get the one and only bad one out of the way first.  This has to do with YOU not making the changes to your eating.  Put very simply, if you are eating too much, YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT, I don’t care how much you train.  You can not train your way out of poor nutrition.  Now, in hoping that the majority of you are following the meal plans that we give you, ther are a couple of other reasons that you may be gaining, or not losing weight.

1.  Your Body is FREAKING OUT–  Especially if this is the first time you have really lifted weights, your body is not sure how to respond to this new stimulus. Couple that with the fact that you are hopefully giving it different fuel (food) and it is easy to understand why it may be struggling to adjust.  Depending on the shape you were in when you started the program, it could take a couple weeks, to even a couple months to level itself out.  This is why our program is not meant for a quick fix.

2.  You are building muscle at the same rate, or faster than you are losing fat–  Some people have an easier time  gaining muscle than others.  This is not a bad thing, but will cause the scale not to move.  This is why we tell all our members to base their progress on the way their cloths fit rather than the number on the scale.  Clothes will tell the true story, as muscle takes up much less space than fat does and will still cause a loss in inches.

3. You’re Swollen–  Lifting weights disrupts your bodies homeostasis.  This means that it is irritated by it.  This is a good thing, because it is this irritation that causes change.  However, after a hard workout, this irritation can cause water retention as the body repairs itself.  This is not a gain in anything other than water, but again will make the scale say that you are gaining weight.

Now these are just a couple of the possible reasons that the scale may not say what you want.  My question to you is, if you looked exactly the way you wanted, legs, tummy, arms, butt, etc.  would you really care what the scale said?

Excuses or Results?

March 29, 2011 3 comments

Every once in a while, I sit down to write a post about something that is bothering me. Typically that is not the case, I usually write posts for the purpose of inspiration, motivation, information, and any other -ation you can think of.

This post however is about something that has been bugging me lately. Now I want to start by saying that most of the time the people that are actually reading this are probably not the ones that it is directed at, but hopefully this will reach a couple of the people that this is about.

As many of you who are getting amazing results already know, Train Insane is getting bigger every month. We are now doing a little bit of advertising in different places, and for the first time, people have been calling us to come train instead of the other way around. For the most part this is AWESOME! However there is a small percentage of people that call in that I will never understand.

These people fit into a group that seem to enjoy participating in what Aaron and I now call “phone workouts.” These people seem to think they get a workout by talking to us on the phone. I mean we are good, but not that good. They call us, because they saw a flier, or advertisement, or found us on the internet, and talk our ear off for upwards of 30 minutes. They will tell us all about their goals, how what they are currently doing is NOT working, how frustrated they are being over weight, and on and on. Then when we ask them when they would like to come in to try out the program, they turn into an excuse machine. It’s like they forgot that THEY CALLED US! All of a sudden they are the busiest people on the planet. They have kids, they have work, they have…fill in the blank. This is always funny to me, because they just had 30 minutes to waste telling me about all their problems.

My question is, did they think that by talking about all their fitness problems that it helped? Did they think that Train Insane was a counseling service? I know this is probably common sense for most people, but I am just going to say it, talking on the phone does not burn calories. Just want to make sure we are all on the same page before I go any farther.

Now it never ceases to amaze me the amount of time that people will spend talking about their problems, and how little time doing anything about them. Walk into any salon, office building, or even during lunch at a restaurant, and I guarantee you will hear no less than 10 people talking about how they need to get in shape, but how many do you think are actively doing anything about it? I guess that is the message of this post, DO SOMETHING! I don’t even care what it is as long as you are making an effort to fix the problem. The truth of the matter is that you can make excuses all you want, but eventually your health will catch up to you. When your doctor tells you that you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, or any of the other complications that can arise from not exercising, no excuse will matter. I think I will close this post with a quote that Aaron and I use a lot when people have excuse after excuse about why they can’t exercise. “Which is more convenient for you, working out for an hour a day, or being dead 24 hours a day?”

If you are reading this, and it is starting to sound like you more and more, start making a change today! Click this link and get started in a program that guarantees results. Or keep doing what you are doing and hope that magically one day it will work.

Genetics or Excuse?

March 29, 2011 Leave a comment

Being in the health and fitness industry for as long as I have, I’ve heard it all as to why people do not look and feel the way they want. As of late though, one reason seems to be getting brought up over and over, and it has to do with genetics and body types. Now, if you didn’t already know there are three basic body types, the Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and the Endomorph.

Now let’s move the part where I give you my opinion on this whole thing.  Let’s just say it is all true, Ectomorphs are doomed to be skinny, Mesomorphs are the athletes, and Endoomorphs are doomed to be fat.  Here is my problem with this.  Let’s think for a second about a great athlete that you knew in high school (doesn’t matter who just pick one).  He was the star baseball, football, basketball player, and had a physique that everyone would love to have.  Now fast forward to the 10 year reunion.  My bet is that he probably doesn’t look like that any more.  Why not?  If your body type cannot change, then he should have been a physical specimen for the rest of his life.  Even though he may have had a body type that lent itself to a lean muscular physique, does not mean that he gets to eat pizza and drink beer and still look that way.  He stopped playing sports, and being active, and it all caught up with him.

Hopefully you see where I am going with this.  Even if you are predisposed to a certain body type, it does not mean that you are powerless to have the body you want.  In the same way that fat people become lean, and lean people become fat bodies can change.  If this statement is true, then how can anyone be stuck where they are?  What has happened, is that people hear about these body types, and they become an excuse as to why they don’t look the way they want.  “Well I would have a six pack, but I’m an endomorph and it just isn’t possible.”  BULLSHIT! You are just not willing to put in the work that will get you to that six pack. This goes back to one of my favorite conversations that I have with people about what they can and can’t do about their physiques.  I have come up with an extremely easy way to get this point across.  In fact it is something that Aaron and I say to people all the time.  “10 in 10 out”  What this means is if you want to look like a 10, you have to put in a 10 effort.  The problem is that EVERYONE wants to look like a 10, but with a 5 effort.  Sorry, it don’t work that way.

If you are one of the ones that say you have bad genetics, then I have news for you YOU BETTER DEVELOP THE EXERCISE GENE! I am never surprised anymore these days when I hear people make excuses as to why they don’t look the way they want or don’t have what they want. It is very easy to point the finger and blame others or bad genetics as to why you are unhappy and it is not so easy to take a long hard look in the mirror at yourself and take 100% of the blame.

Help Us Out

As some of you may know by now, Aaron and I are making a run to qualify for the Cross Fit games.  Now for those of you that are unfamiliar with this, it is basically the sport of fitness.  This is a world-wide competition that tests strength, endurance, skill, athleticism, agility, and all out guts.  As of right now, there are over 9,000 men signed up to compete!  Each week for 6 weeks, we will have a new workout to do and film that will be sent in for judging.  We have decided to post all these videos, being that it is normally us on the motivation side of things, we thought that it might be cool for all of you to help motivate us for a change, and see us walk the walk so to speak.  Workout #1

For the next 6 weeks, we will be going up against the best on the planet to try to qualify for the big event in May. On April 23, in Aliso Viejo there will be a huge event for the last of the 6 weeks that we would love everyone to come to.  Only the top 60 in Southern California advance, so we have our work cut out for us.  The links below are to mine and Aaron’s personal profile page.  You can go on these pages and leave us comments, follow our weekly ranking, or just watch the videos.  It will definitely not be easy, but as we have said repeatedly, nothing worth doing ever is.

Thanks in advance for support.

5 Tips to Stay Fit

March 21, 2011 Leave a comment

1. Drink plenty of water– At least half your body weight in ounces. This amount can also fluctuate depending on the amount of exercise you are doing and also hot it is. The best solution for pollution is dilution!

2. Eat high quality foods– Stay away from highly processed foods. Get plenty of fruits and veggies each day

3. Compound exercises-If exercises are not compound movements we might be wasting our time. Compound exercises include such exercises as squats overhead press, deadlift, power cleans, and bent over rows. These are a few of the favorites at Train Insane.

4. Stress reduction– We all have stress its normal to our daily lives however we must learn to cope and deal with stress for it can lead to excessive weight gain. Specific exercise routines can lead to a reduction in stress. Moreover proper eating habits will also help reduce overall stress levels in the body

5. HIIT training– or better known as high intensity interval training- High intensity interval training is highly effective for melting away fat and flat out delivering results. The benefit of doing this type of cardio is that it will help boost your metabolism, doing 45 to 60 minuets of cardio is a thing of the past.
